Assignment 9

Today, Nov 13, 2019, I'm going to experiment with subdividing beats to see if I can be more in time. The first thing I experimented with was counting in my head while playing. This was the least effective for keeping me in time. Then I wrote out the subdivision above the notes. This helped me to keep in time but I was still worried that I slowing down at the harder fingerings. Thus, I tried writing down a line over the notes where the down beats were. I then used taping my foot to help me count the big beats and I counted the subdivision in my head. This was difficult at first, but it did help me stay in time.

Today, Nov 14, 2019, I am going to experiment with using my diaphragm to see how it will affect my articulation. For this experiment I tried just breathing the way I usually do. Then, I tried taking deeper breaths. This helped somewhat, but I still did not have the attack in my articulation that I wanted. After, I experimented with sitting up straighter in order to open up my diaphragm and let in more air. This helped my air to be faster as well making my articulation crisper. It still was not as crisp as I wanted my articulation to be. Thus, I experimented with physically contracting my diaphragm quickly while I tongued, then releasing the tension right after the articulation

Today, Nov, 14, 2019, I'm going to experiment with my metronome tempo for my try harm playing test. I first put the metronome at 50 bpm. That was too fast for me to be accurate. Thus, I started putting the metronome down by 5 bpm from 50 bpm. I would put it down than experiment with that tempo. Each time  put it down I would play a few bars than realize it was still too fast and put it down again. At one point it was too slow so I put the metronome a few bpm's up and finally found a good tempo to start on. As I progressed I would up my tempo by 5 bmp until I reached my limit of capability.
